For me, life is a whirlwind of colors. I believe life should not be dull, boring, or standardized. I like my pale blues, my cream color for white, and my soft daisy yellow. I don’t like the basics. I do not go with the standard rainbow array of colors and I most certainly don’t go in between either. I mix and mix until I find something I like, and if I don’t like it, or it turns black from mixing too much, I simply start over. I get my turquoise to be the color of waves when the sun light filters through exposing the brilliance of all that is blue. I know what I should have, I know what I want, and I will not stop until I get that exact match.
I don’t want to start with blue and end with blue. I do not want to be able to go to the store and pick out the color. Artists today have it easy. I do not take what is given to me. To be able to go to the store and pick out Ultramarine or Lavender blush is cheating on artistic expression. It is easy. It is uncomplicated. And it is certainly not something Monet would be proud of. Standardization in art is such an ugly word.
Paintings cannot be monotonous and boring. To appreciate art is to be able to appreciate the dimensions, the layers, and the colors within a painting. To tell the story and to let your mind wander. Art is alive. It is our mind that creates the world. What we perceive is based on what we want to see. What we are willing to see. How we want to see it. Therefore, art should always be changing, as are we.
